Burke Business Center (“BBC”) manifested itself on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 102 South Ridgeland Avenue,Oak Park Illinois.

The concept was given to Salena Burke owner of BBC about four years ago.  Around that time, Ms. Burke was working for an option firm in the Chicago downtown area, when her boss was contemplating retirement. Ms. Burke, who loved her work environment and co-workers, realized that finding another work atmosphere like the one she was currently in was unlikely.

After praying and meditating, she received an idea to provide computer classes to the public.  The idea was well received since she had previous experience in training in different software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.  Not only did she have experience, she had a master degree from DePaul University in computer science.  The concept evolved from providing computer-training courses, to allowing pursing entrepreneurs and small businesses to utilize her training conference room for meetings when the room was not in use.

As the business concept was evolving, Ms. Burke was giving the idea not only to provide her training conference room to the public, but also provide a relaxing environment with business amenities.  So she added a business center to her business plan, which provides computers, faxes, copiers, printers, and a business lounge.  As an amenity, Ms. Burke planned to provide coffee and tea to her customers, but the vision was bigger then that.  Instead, an Internet Café was developed which offered, Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea, pastries, a retail book collection, and with the suggestion of her contractor, David Gruber, a fireplace.

BBC had everything it needed; training courses, seminars, business services, membership packets, Internet café and much more.  However, it was missing the finishing touch.  Ms. Burke prayed and mediated more for guidance.  Then as always after seeking guidance, she knew what the finishing touch was.

She needed something that was warm, personal, and always cheerful. The touch had to be the first thing her customers saw and it had to leave an everlasting impression.

Every person who entered the Burke Business Center, regardless for leisure or business, enters the café first and they would be welcomed by Ms. Burke’s finishing touch, her best friend, her mother, Melaine Mays.  Unless you know Ms. Burke personally, you truly do not understand the blessing in this. However, if you have a moment, stop by the Center and she would love to fill you in.
